Breed Bans by WatergazerWolf Breed Bans by WatergazerWolf
In Chicago Illinois, pit bull fights are on the rise, along with negative public sentiment about the breed and the ignorance of it. In light of serious recent attacks on children, the breed may now get banned because of fear alone. A dog is like any other, bred and trained to do certain things...pits are not automatic killers. People want the breed phased out of exsistance...extinct, even if they do accept that training and treatment makes the dog what it is...because they fear that so long as the pits survive as a breed there will always be attacks on people. By that same logic then, guns should no longer be created, no matter that the owner of one may practice it and get licenses and be a good citizen, taking every care with it. America's number one breed has been twisted by a few...but perhaps it is the minds of the ignorant that is even more so. And because of it, a lot of good owners may be forced to part with their dogs or leave, and thousands of pits euthenized. Who is getting punished here? Certainly not the pit fighters...just upright owners and bully-looking canines.

I recommend the DVD documentary "Off the Chain" if you are looking for more information about the wildfire spread of dog fighting in the USA, and the war going on to fight it...or not.

I agree with these so much! I just got a Brindle Pit / German Shepherd mix puppy and he broke his collar and ran after this little doxon that was walking by on a leash, the woman freaked out and all my pup wanted to do was play. You could tell by his tail wagging and his posture of lowering his front with his rear in the air going all wiggly-crazy from his tail.

No dog is mean, it's owner does that to them. I was raised with rot's, they were the nicest thing until they got old and decrepit and couldn't see, hear, or smell to well.

Breed bans on dogs is just so stupid. As I mentioned elsewhere, I had the most terrific pit bull dog for 16 years.
I think the only animal that needs breed banning is humans.

Blame the trainer, not the biter.

There is always something nasty behind "The blood-thirsty dog ripped our little angel to shreds"- stories, something nasty about the trainer.

Hmm, I'll see what I can do. I know I have been meaning to get the files better updated and less corrupted...these were done before I have Illustrator and a decent Photoshop skill so they need some revamping but I'll look and see if I got this not on black.

Such a true message. My across the street who had a pitbull her name was Veaga. She was the sweetest dog you have ever seen, she would go up to any one and let them pet her and sh would lick their hand. But then are new neigbors moved in and they had a collie-supposedly one of the least likely to bite-anyways the dogs got into a fight on day and the kids that onwned the collie-who started the fight-went to try to break it up and stuck their hand right where the dogs moth were. She got her hand opened up by the bite she claimed the pit did to her.My neighbor had to put his pit down and had to pay for the surgery on the girls hand. He was devistated, 3 weeks later he moved, then a few days after he moved the collie got into a fight with one of my dogs, but this time the when the girl went to break the fight up again I stopped her, it turned out that her family had been doing that for awhile, getting their dog into fights and having that girl stick her hand into the fight. It made me feel bad for both their dog and the girl. ANyways the point of this whole story is that Veaga-the pit was not at faul yet she was the one put down. Im gonna put this on a shirt a wear it all the time. :+fav:

I've just looked this up, and I can agree. If they get rid of the pitt bulls, what's next? Dobermans that were trained to replace the 'prized' fighters? Then the German shepherds? Next thing you know, they're getting rid of poodles and springer spaniels.

Fear has caused a lot of great and terrible things in this world. We have more wars because we're afraid this person may have this this and that to use against us. I know this is not true, but it seems that every human in this world is self centered, save for a priceless few. We eliminate things that we fear, and eventually we'll be eliminating ourselves from existence.

The animals don't deserve to be banned. They've done nothing wrong, only what they've been taught to do. Those who have taught the animals to behave in such a way deserve to be banned....or at least get a worse punishment than a little jail time...

Definate fave. Would it be okay if I printed a few of these out to post at my garage sale?

I am going to try to show that in my novel...but really, I don't think people will ever get back their original ideas of the pit bull being a gentle kind-hearted breed. Once pits are banned, the people who fight them will just find another breed and then that breed will get banned too...and so on.

Heard the sad story of Ruby Cadilliac the pit bull? If not, look it up on Google...sad tragic story of a neighbor shooting another neighbors' pit bulls just because of the breed, and getting away with it so far.

Its a real shame, but sometimes I wonder if it isn't for the best. Here in the UK, american pit bulls are illegal so the sort of people who would ordinarily have a pit get a staffy instead. And we now have staffy fighting and the exact same issue but with a different breed. If american pits were allowed here, I shudder to think of the sort of people who would own them. Its annoying for those people who are good owners and genuinely love the breed but unfortunately, as with so many things, the idiots in society ruin it for everyone else.
Having said that, I think if they introduced a system here where you needed a license to own one, then it would go some way to ensuring that only the genuine owners would have them. Wouldn't stop the scum of society getting hold of them though. I can't think of a good way to tackle the issue. The breed should certainly not be wiped out as they're lovely dogs in the right hands, but how do you work it so they don't end up being abused? In a way, banning a breed is keeping it out of the hands of people who would treat it like shit, it can almost be seen as being as much for the dog's benefit as anything else. I'd like there to be an alternative, because none of it is the dog's fault, but until the idea of pitbulls as fighting dogs or status symbols or a tough guy's dog is quashed, people are going to get them for the wrong reasons and cause more suffering dogs.

I certainly think its ridiculous that people who have owned a family pit for years suddenly have to get rid of it. Thats just madness.

 Awesome! My brother's freind just go ta pit bull puppy, and I was watching him for awhile. My mom was afraid that this 10 pound puppy was gonna like, bite me. YEA RIGHT this dog was the sweetest thing EVER and just adorable...a beautiful dog. As far as his aggressivness, he was biting on a toy I gave him, and let me take it right out of his hands no problem. Now a dog like that doesn't just go "nuts" and kill a two year old. It's gotta be raised and trained to be a killer. It's just sad that people are sick enough to do that....

I should post his picture. He's just adorable...

My cousins have a pit bull cross cattle dog, it's not a full blooded pitt but she is the most beautifull, kind natured loving dog i know. my 1 year old cousin plays with her and she is just a beautifull kind dog. she has never bitten anyone. my parents don't like her very much cause they are worried she'll attack because of the negative publisitysurrounding the breed. i agree with you, the breed is being punished for a few crappy stupid people. it's not there fault, it's the owners, why can't people see that.

the only reson why bit bull "attack" storys are spred is cos they sound better than Chihuahuas or poodles... who bite people just as often... and are weaker animals, but pit's were deliberately bred to be strong, for hunting and such, like dobermans or razorbacks they were bred for a purpose, perhapse its the lazy parents who should look after their kids better and not let them go wandering off on their own.

WELL SAID. Im definately going to use these two images as T Shirts.
Thankyou for doing somthing like this. Their beautiful images and this one is just tear jerking.. and the fighting one is gritting truth.

Love the eyes in this one.. and breed bans are moronic.. its like alcahol.. or drugs.. banning and restricting only makes things worse.. the more someone tries to surpress somthing.. the worse it becomes.. humanity as a whole, is stupid.

Keep up the inspiring artwork.

Gee, I remember the last time we did something out of fear. It ended up with thousands of people dying on boats and being put to work in farms and eventually doing this thing called "The Underground Railroad".

Fuck, fear is a powerful emotion, but whichever president said it was the only thing to be feared had a damned good point!

I always say "don't blame the animal blame those that train it, It only knows what it's been taught". People need to start blaming the owners.
I myself don't want a pit, but it has nothing at all to do with its reputaion... I just think they have ugly faces, lol. I want a dog thats cute and not so big that it can't lay acrose my lap. I don't want my dog to be so big I get squished when it wants to love on me. My moms friend has 2 pits and they are soo sweet (big babys actually). And everytime I go over their they love on me and I get squished, and its hard to get them to move if they don't want to, lol.
I feel bad what has been going on with Pits. We live on a military base and they aren't even allowed on base or a mix with Pit in it. If you have one they can come into your house and take it without you even knowing. But yet we can have Rots and Dobermans and all the other dogs that sometimes don't get the best of reputations. And I've read somewhere That the Pit isn't even the dog with the highest attack rate. I think it was a Shepehrd or something (can't remember). But noone cares about that, I think they just pick on pits because of the way they look. People are so stupid...

Of course, and the pit term can imply so many other breeds too. Where does it end? Oh, and it's the labrador with the highest bite rate I think.

I don't think it will ever end. People will always find something to complain about. Once they are done with pits they will start up on other dog breeds. And after dogs they will probly come after cats. Soon people will be having their cats taken away because they scratched some kid (even though noone will mention the kid was picking on the cat before he gets scratched).
It's an endless cycle of stupidity, and it wont end because people think animals are just that "ANIMALS"!!!
((I am actually right now trying to find the bite rate list. I want to know which dog was #1 and what number the Pit got.))

People see a couple of attacks on people that the news has gone and had a field day with and what do you expect? With no responsibility to report the facts, the spin the story to draw the idiot masses in and sway opinions. Stupid people in large numbers can achieve alot, but its never good.

All the pitbulls I have met are really gentle types. None will win awards for intelligence, but the were really sweet. Except when they try to be lap dogs... little too big for that.
