UrSob the Mystic Shaman by WatergazerWolf UrSob the Mystic Shaman by WatergazerWolf
My completed Mystic sculpture created with Super Sculpy and Premo! clays over toothpick, foil, and wire armature and using embroidary floss for hair with stone accents. I'd say I used a little over half the Super Sculpy, and went through around 8-10 ounches of the Premo! colored clay packs for this piece. I don't know how long it took to make since I only got to work on it in tiny portions over a month, but you can probably take a guess for yourself in seeing the how-to photos in the gallery. It's a bit over a foot long and just under half a foot high and wide, and is my finest clay piece to date-so far. I now fully intend to do other such fan-based works like Ninja Turtles, All Dogs Go To Heaven, Land Before Time, etc.

The Mystic species is copyrighted by Brian Froud and the makers of "The Dark Crystal" by Jim Henson.

it's really great, great details and well sculpted! i'd like to see your originals look this detailed, fanwork is great but limiting in a lot of ways... especially in the "you can't really market this without copyright infringement" kinda way. it's fantastic as a sculpture though, and great for you to be building!

Thanks. I have to say I doubt I'd ever make sculpture for an art show or something though. I've failed to see the point anymore in creating art with the intention to try and sell it somewhere. Rather, I'll take commissions and just do others for myself. At least, I'm trying to stay artistically alive that way, lol.

Thanks...now I can feel more confident about doing a TMNT series, among many other fan sculpts. Maybe I'll work out a Land Strider too.

The book really helped me plan out what I had to do for each step in building form and clothing...that and the making-of parts of the DVD that show the costumes as actors were working on them. I wish there were toys of them but, can't have it all.

Wow, thanks. Really though, he deserves the credit for making this way awesome creature, and the actors for playing them so well in such a hard-to-manuver body. I should send the images to Brian Froud maybe.

did you watch the making of thing at the end of the vhs? It's awsome how they did everything! The mystics are one of my favs. the other are thos elong legged things that remind me of bunnies.

Yeah, and the DVD version is even better and more detailed with the construction of the costumes and how the actors wore them. And the long-legged things remindded me more of walruses, heh...the Land Striders. But with those huge ears I can see a bit of bunny in them too.

Wow.
This is superb. You did a great job on detail and hair! The clothes and amor [?] are fantastic too. ^^ Personally I would have found something other than string to use, but then again, it adds a great effect.

I honestly tried to find good doll hair...but there was just nothing I could work with or imagine working with in the stores I looked in, which have isles devoted to creating dolls. I also couldn't find grey hair...go figure.

Erk. I'm terribly sorry to hear that- However, it does still look brilliant as it is. It's quite annoying when they've what you want, but haven't how you wish it, isn't it?
